Our Polish member Diakonia Polska (Diaconia Poland) has joined our German member Diakonie Deutschland’s (Diaconia Germany) campaign “Türen öffnen. Gerechtigkeit leben” (Open the door, live fairly) within the celebrations of the 500th anniversary the Reformation. Diaconal institutions, deacons, parish groups and volunteers will be asked to visually show their commitment to social justice through the symbol of a door. The inspiration for this symbol come by the doors of the castle church in Wittenberg, where Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses .
Diaconal organisations are invited to organise workshops about social justice in the framework of their ordinary activities, and to produce as a graphic tool a “door” symbolizing their conception of “social justice.” These can result of the graphic decoration of a real door, or of a symbolic door made of wood, cardboard or other materials.
Decorating a door symbolizes the idea of opening up our heart to help the others, and the ability to provide efforts for reliving others’ pains. Groups engaged in the project, are also encouraged to include in their work a presentation of their organization’s mission, as well as the values they follow, such as daily work, love, respect, human dignity and integrity.
Approximately fifty “doors” will be presented at the end of March 2017, at the exhibition in Wittenberg, which is planned to mark the anniversary of the Reformation. Furthermore, a virtual gallery of all submitted projects will be developed.
