Eurodiaconia is glad to invite its members to a study visit to the project “Vamos for Young Asylum Seekers”, on 4-5 October 2018 in Helsinki (Finland), hosted by our member the Helsinki Deaconess Institute (HDI).
The HDI project “Vamos” is aimed at developing a new rehabilitative service for activation of young asylum seekers and targeted for 16 to 29-year-olds who are waiting for their residence permit decision in Helsinki, Vantaa and Espoo. The activities are addressed to young asylum seekers, who have passed the age of compulsory education and are at risk of becoming idle. The beneficiaries take part in psycho-educative group activities and are encouraged to start new hobbies and meet people with a Finnish background.
Besides the visit to project’s facilities in Helsinki, the study visit will show how HDI is successfully using the European Social Fund (ESF) in a long-term and sustainable way for social inclusion, as well as integrating it with the Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund (AMIF). An expert presentation by Pauliina Eskola (Ministerial Adviser in the Finnish Ministry for the Interior) will showcase other successful synergies between the ESF and the AMIF in Finland.
The participants will also have the opportunity to learn more about three other transnational projects from Eurodiaconia members, all focused on social inclusion of migrants and funded in different ways:
- Kalunba Social Services Ltd (Reformed Church of Hungary), aiming at better integrating refugees and migrants in Hungarian society;
- Service to Migrants in Milan & Servizio Migranti in Piedmont (Diaconia Valdese, Italy), providing housing and support in finding a job for asylum seekers in Italy;
- DOMA – Diaconia offers opportunities to migrants (Diaconie ECCB, Czech Republic), on the integration of recognized refugees into the Czech society and local communities.
