Eurodiaconia is pleased to invite its members and partners to the Hearing on the Future EU Roma Strategy – Proposals for Action post-2020, which will take place on the 26th of June at the European Economic and Social Committee in Brussels.
Together with our members, we have been actively involved in the promotion of Roma inclusion across Europe and in supporting vulnerable EU mobile citizens, among whom many are Roma. Our network of social service providers firmly believes that a follow-up strategy to the current EU Framework for National Roma Integration Strategies (NRIS) up to 2020 is needed to continue efforts to foster Roma Inclusion.
In order to be effective in the long term, a new strategy should include capacity building at national and local levels, the allocation of national budgets to the implementation of NRIS, as well as a stronger focus on EU mobile Roma and on antigypsyism. This event will bring together key stakeholders from civil society engaged in Roma inclusion and policymakers to debate the persistent obstacles to Roma integration and to identify common priorities and recommendations for more effective EU strategies to Roma integration post-2020. A special focus is given to synergies between Roma integration measures and existing legislation and frameworks that promote social inclusion, such as the Sustainable Development Goals.
