Earlier this week, the European Commission released a report titled “Sustainable Inclusion of Migrants into Society and Labour Market.” The document gives an overview of the member states’ different practices across the EU, funding available and the integrated approach to migrant inclusion.
Maryanne Thyssen, EU Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs, Skills and Labour Mobility, while highlighting that arrivals have dropped by 90% compared to 2015, recognises that in order to create a cohesive society, migrants settling in Europe need to be fully integrated into the economic, social and cultural aspects of life.
Against this context, the Commission’s report aims to shed light on the integrated approach behind the Commission’s 2016 action plan on integration. This is done by explaining the key elements of an integrated approach and highlighting the new tools and initiatives available within this new framework. The document also has a section summarising the existing EU policy context and how member states’ practices regarding migrant integration can be categorised into intuitive models.
Lastly, the report gives an overview of the EU funding available to member states and other important stakeholders that can contribute to local, regional and national initiatives through a multi-level governance approach. The document also expands on what to expect from the future design of EU funds under the 2021 – 2027 Multiannual Financial Framework.
