Our Ukrainian member Living Hope has just published its latest update on its recent and actions and projects.
Summertime is probably the busiest time of the year for Living Hope due to the fact that schools are closed, and children need to be assisted and sheltered also in the morning. In the frame of its Summer activities, our member organised its second Family Camp, a Summer Camp for children, and its traditional school material distribution.
Following the success of 2018’s Family Camp, last Summer’s camp saw the participation of more than 100 people and gave 30 families experiencing extreme poverty and social exclusion the chance to enjoy a beach holiday on the Black Sea coast. Some of the participants had never seen the sea before in their lives, despite the fact that the village they live in is only 60 Km far away from the beach.
Last Summer, Living Hope relaunched its Summer Camp for its young users. The week-long event was attended by more than 140 children from Odessa and Petrovka village and included theatre, sport, and spiritual courses.
At the beginning of September, our member has also run its annual school material distribution project, during which uniforms, school bags, books, notebooks, and stationary were provided to underprivileged students so that they may be able to develop their educational standard.
Most of the children assisted by our member come from families facing extreme poverty and social exclusion. It is not unusual for those children to live with their parents and siblings in one-room houses without any floors, or kitchen or toilets. The aim of Living Hope is to break the chain of exclusion they are trapped in.
In light of the current political situation in Ukraine, Living for Hope is actively engaged in facing multiple social problems such as poverty, alcohol and drugs abuse, domestic violence and childcare. Through its faith-based approach, the organization aims to promote social inclusion and equality across the region.
