Berlin, Germany – September 22, 2023 – Berlin, played host to a significant event as our member Diakonie Germany observed its 175th anniversary with a celebration at the Museum of Communication on Leipziger Straße. This milestone gathering welcomed a distinguished assembly of guests, including Annette Kurschus, the presiding senior clergy of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia and Chairwoman of the Council of the Evangelical Church in Germany (EKD), as well as the Chancellor of Germany. Founded in 1848, Diakonie Germany has a long history of providing humanitarian assistance, advocating for social welfare, and supporting the most vulnerable segments of society. Over the course of 175 years, it has consistently addressed pressing social issues and extended aid to individuals and communities in need throughout Germany.
The anniversary event commenced with an atmosphere of reflection and gratitude. Annette Kurschus, a prominent figure within the Evangelical Church, delivered a thoughtful speech highlighting the organization’s remarkable journey and unwavering commitment to its core principles. The presence of Germany’s Chancellor at the event underscored the significance of Diakonie Germany’s work within the nation. It highlighted the government’s recognition of the organization’s substantial contributions in addressing societal challenges over nearly two centuries.
Furthermore, the event served as a platform for Diakonie Germany’s ongoing initiatives and its vision for the future. It emphasized the organization’s commitment to addressing contemporary issues such as poverty, homelessness, and healthcare disparities in an ever-evolving societal landscape.
In this occasion, under the banner of #ausLiebe, Diakonie Germany has launched a nationwide image campaign in honor of its 175th anniversary in 2023.
