Early today, the European Commission proposed a political roadmap for migration, ahead of the EU leaders’ thematic debate on migration that will be held on 14th of December.
The idea is to move away from a “crisis management” approach to migration, to a sustainable migration policy. The goal is the adoption of a comprehensive agreement by June 2018 on how to pursue a sustainable migration policy which is supporting the Member States most exposed, strengthening the protection of the EU’s external borders and reinforcing cooperation with partner countries.
With this roadmap, the European Commission recommends that the Council unblocks the negociations on migration, particularly on the reform of the Dublin regulation and the Common European Asylum system.
