Eurodiaconia and its German member Diakonie Deutschland are pleased to invite members, partners, and stakeholders to their online conference titled “The Future of Europe – a New Labour Market, a New Social Protection”, taking place on the 2nd of October from 10 am – 1.10 pm.
Since Germany took over the EU Council Presidency on 1 July 2020, there has been a particular emphasis on its responsibility in shaping the future of Europe. Many social, digital, environmental, and economic challenges that have long been emerging developments must be integrated globally, but first of all jointly at the European level, to ensure fair and sustainable change.
Taking a labour market as a basis that is adaptive to these developments with numerous social consequences, Diaconia wants to contribute to the COVID 19 pandemic by putting a European focus on existing dependencies on work, social protection, and economic “constraints”. Two presentations on European social policy will be complemented by »good practices« in three workshops, in which different members of Eurodiaconia will present and initiate the discussions. In these workshops and the discussion among the participants, an attempt will be made to identify the concrete challenges for modern social protection in Europe and a fair understanding of work.
The contribution of Diaconia for a just and transformative social change across Europe manifests, for example, in our efforts to support the effective implementation of the European Pillar of Social Rights. Together we will continue to be a strong actor in the European social economy and advocate for the improvement of the quality of life of disadvantaged and vulnerable people. The results of the conference will be used to further build Diaconia’s position for the development of European minimum social standards.
