Despite its Roma population of around 76000 people, Bosnia and Herzegovina is the only country in Europe where Roma are prohibited by law from holding any crucial high political office.
The largest minority in the country suffers from extreme poverty. Discrimination is used against them on a daily basis both at social and public level.
According to the fact sheet, the Roma population in BiH is still over-exposed to the risk of poverty, statelessness, lack of education and more generally the absence of a recognised link between the individual and the state.
