Eurodiaconia released two policy papers in the context of the ongoing consultation process around a European Pillar of Social Rights titled: Promoting upward social convergence and The role of social services in fighting inequalities in Europe.
Launched in September at Eurodiaconia’s breakfast debate on the Social Pillar, the papers explore the role which diaconal service providers can play in tackling inequality, and key strategies to ensure ‘upward social convergence’ through the Pillar.
Complementing Eurodiaconia’s response to the Commission’s formal consultation on a draft proposal for a European Pillar of Social Rights, the Paper on promoting upward social convergence outlines key recommendations for boosting the social and employment performance of Member States through social investment, active inclusion and civil dialogue.
As reflection of the multidimensional dimension of well-being, inequality touches upon a number of socioeconomic outcomes ranging from income and wealth to employment, education, health, energy, housing and access to services.
Reducing the growing divide between the rich and the poor In Europe requires a comprehensive package of policies where social services are key to such goal.
