On 1st-2nd June 2021, Eurodiaconia hosted its first online Joint Roma and Extreme Destitution Network Meeting, on the issues of Roma child poverty and the inequality surrounding digital accessibility for students in Europe. The recently launched Child Guarantee aims to ensure that “every child in Europe at risk of poverty or social exclusion has access to the most basic of rights like healthcare and education.” Of particular interest to Eurodiaconia’s members is the translation of the Child Guarantee to the situation of Roma children living in poverty and digital poverty as it relates to access to education.
Our deepest thanks go to our members Diakonia Covasna/Diakonia Sfantu Gheorghe in Romania, Diakonie ČCE from Czechia, The Salvation Army in the Netherlands, the Ecumenical Humanitarian Organisation in Serbia and Diaconia Austria for their great contributions.
