Our Danish member Kirkens Korshaer has partnered with a second-hand shop named “Pleasant” with the aim of encouraging recycling and donations. Visitors who buy items from the store will, through the purchase, also make a small donation to Kirkens Korshaer to enable the organisation to continue to provide social services for the most disadvantaged groups in Denmark.
The initiative has the additional effect of preserving the planet. Sune Wessel, Recycling Manager and Relationship Officer at Kirkens Korshaer, said “at our organisation we place a significant importance on reusing items that would have otherwise just been discarded […] It is sustainable and circular […] and protects the environment.”
This is the latest of a number of similar collaborations our Danish member has with other companies and second-hand stores across the country. For example a store in Ballerup which receives from citizens and resells a variety of used items – such as books, furniture, kitchenware – often donates its extra stock to stores managed by Kirkens Korshaer to support fragile groups.
Additionally, through a partnership with Berendsen, a firm that rents out and washes bed linen, towels and work uniforms for hospitals, hotels and large companies, our member has been able to obtain bedding for its own housing facilities and for direct distribution to people in need.
