At the end of November, Eurodiaconia hosted a two-day network meeting focused on the long-term care sector in the EU. The event was led by our Economic and Social Policy Officer Laura Rayner, who presented the organisation’s most recent advocacy initiatives and discussed the challenges and the implications of EU policymaking. Her introduction was followed by five stakeholder presentations.
The first guest speaker, Mr. Petteri Viramo, CEO of Caritaslaiset, presented a comparison of the long-term care sectors in the Nordic countries and the EU as a whole. Dr. Musta, from our member in Timisoara, joined us via web stream to outline their telemedicine project, which takes medical care to those living in remote areas. Niina Viikas, the interim CEO of Vivago MOVE, gave a presentation on integrated care pathways and transforming digital health into smart care. Jan Finell, the Chief International Customer Officer of Raisoft, presented the Residents Assessment Instrument in the context of long-term care of geriatric and disabled people. Finally, we were joined by Dr. Sanna Huikari, from Oulu Business School, University of Oulu, who examined health and healthcare issues through the lens of economics.
During the event the participants had the opportunity to visit three institutions working in the field of long-term care where they were given tours around the facilities and introduced to their new projects.
