Last March, our German member Diakonie Deutschland participated in the conference “Asylum and migration: a key issue for Europe” organised in Paris by France Terre D’asile and the Parisian office of Heinrich-Böll-Foundation. The meeting was aimed at enhancing a French-German exchange on asylum, migration and integration strategies.
A joint declaration was issued by the participating organisations after the meeting. The signatories of this declaration are German and French social actors involved in the reception, assistance, and counselling of refugees on a daily basis. The declaration emphasizes that individual rights to protection and asylum, respect of human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, rule of law and promotion of human rights, as set out in Article 2 of the Treaty of the European Union, are founding values of the European Union that shall be urgently protected.
