Last 24-25 November, Eurodiaconia organised a conference on ‘Social protection in the Baltic states’ in Riga, Latvia in cooperation with Diakonija Latvija (Latvia Diaconia). The aim of the conference was to offer a platform for exchange on poverty and social exclusion to representatives from various diaconal organisations and other social actors in the Baltic states. The event featured presentations on social protection and existing gaps in welfare systems, on the significance of EU instruments to fight poverty and social exclusion in the Baltic context, as well as on the transferability of various successful projects developed by Eurodiaconia’s Dutch member Kerk in Actie to the situation in Latvia and Lithuania.
