Position Papers on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum

In partnership with eight Churches and Christian organisations working on migration, Eurodiaconia has recently published joint position papers on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum.

A consortium of organisations, including Eurodiaconia, that advocate for and provide practical assistance for migrants, refugees, and asylum-seekers in Europe have released a set of joint papers on topics related to the New Pact on Migration and Asylum. Although the pact promises “a fresh start for migration in Europe,” the proposals reproduce harmful policies from the past and introduce new legislation with questionable effectiveness and compliance with international and fundamental law.

The joint position papers on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum include:

  1. General comments and recommendations on the pact
  2. Proposals on pre-entry screening and border procedures
  3. Return and readmission
  4. Search and rescue and criminalisation of solidarity
  5. Solidarity
