Later last month, our Scottish member CrossReach has received £1,000 from the STV Children’s Appeal, boosting support for the CrossReach-managed Visitors Support & Advice Centre next to Perth Prison.
The STV Children’s Appeal was launched in 2011 by The Hunter Foundation and STV. They came together to raise funds and to help make a real difference to those who need it most, by providing practical help like food and warm clothes; creating opportunities for training and employability; and enabling social and emotional support.
The STV Children’s Appeal works closely with Scotland’s leading experts in the field of child poverty, sharing knowledge and expertise with both small community groups and national charities on their experiences of addressing the challenges of child poverty in Scotland.
CrossReach-managed Visitors Support & Advice Centre aims to alleviate the stress in the lives of prisoners’ families by helping to maintain communications in the family unit, as well as increasing self-esteem, reducing social isolation, and motivating and encouraging visitors to the centre and the prison.
Since launching in 2011, the STV Children’s Appeal has raised over £13.7 million, with 722 big and small grants distributed to projects across all 32 local authority areas in Scotland, providing much needed support to over 62,000 children. The money raised is distributed to provide practical help like food and warm clothes; create opportunities for training and employability; and enable social and emotional support for those who need it most.
