Late last month, our Serbian member Ekumenska Humanitarna Organizacija (Ecumenical Humanitarian Organisation) started a new project cycle for the years 2016 – 2019 meant to support forcibly displaced Roma men and women in Serbia.
Among the key actions of the project, the support of Roma children– in particular returning Roma migrants– will continue in the municipalities of Novi Sad, Beocin, Zrenjanin, Novi Becej, Subotica, Kikinda and Srpska Crnja through several educational activities.
A meeting already took place in mid-August with external partners in order to identify good activities among existing models and instruments to work with students. Mentoring opportunities for children, as well as cooperation with families are also foreseen in the project, which includes the translation of degrees for school recognition. The project is co-financed by Diakonie Württemberg, along with the German protestant development agency Brot für die Welt.
