A series of big earthquakes struck off Ecuador’s coast over the last 6 days. According to Ecuador’s Risk Management Office, at least 570 people are now known to have died in the quake,155 people remain missing, and 7,015 injured. As is usual in the case of natural disaster, the most immediate effect has been population displacement. It has been estimated that some thousands people abandoned their homes to seek shelter, as well as food supplies and clean water in other regions.
Our Spanish member Diaconía-Red de Acción Social (Diaconia – Social Aid Network) launched a fundraising appeal to support the Ecuadorian Evangelical Confraternity in its effort to help people in the most affected areas of Manta, Pedernales and Portoviejo. Donations will be used to meet the most basic needs of the population, and to buy a power plant for the village of Manta.
You can make a donation online using Diaconía’s website or by bank transfer.
